The Chefs: Our chef couple team, Jim and Erica Young, create seasonal menus featuring ingredients from local Virginia farms. Jim is a seasoned chef, with years of fine dining experience and Erica completes the duo as pastry chef and chocolatier. You’re sure to enjoy every bite of their classic American fare plates, with modern twists and unique creations paying respect to the cuisine of the founding fathers who dined here.
The Experience: Since 1766, Henry Fry’s Elim, updated from the original name of Meander, has been known for the Fry family’s hospitality and fine food. Over the years the forefathers of America dined here, warmed by our fire and illuminated by candlelight. In 1823, Thomas Jefferson and Henry Fry held a gala dinner for General Lafayette to celebrate America’s new independence. Today we strive to keep the plantation’s traditions alive by providing a welcoming atmosphere and serving dishes featuring wild game and locally grown produce.
The Menu: Elim serves four courses, each one inspired by the area’s history but with our own twist. The diverse entrees may consist of quail, duck, trout, venison, pork or seafood, with your choice between two dishes. The menu is updated continuously to feature the freshest of local foods and the bounties of the seasons.
We finish the meal with our signature dish and George Washington’s favorite… chocolate eclairs and ice wine.
The Wine: We are proud of our relationship with local winemakers and vineyards and strive to provide the best in Virginia wines. Suggestions of wine pairings complement our cuisine.
Dining Details: Our four-course dinner menu is served at 7:00pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and typically moves at a leisurely pace, taking about two hours.
The dinner cost is $65 per person, exclusive of taxes, with optional alcohol and gratuity. The flight of 4 Virginia wines with dinner is an additional $30. Wine may be purchased by the bottle or by the glass. Virginia beers are also available.

Dietary Accommodations: Special dietary needs, including allergies and special diets, are happily accommodated when possible. Be sure to include this information in the system when making your reservation, as well as share with the Innkeeper if something special is needed for your stay. Due to the limited size or our kitchen, we know that cross contamination is a possibility and are not able to fulfill stringent dietary issues with confidence.
Our Popular Dinner Basket
On the nights the Inn’s dining room is not open, we offer our guests the choice of a full, hot, three course chef-prepared meal, packed in a large basket, complete with dishes, silverware and cloth napkins. Dinner Baskets are ready for you to pick up at 6:45 in the manor house. Advance notice of 24-hours is required.
Typically, the chef’s choice menu will be a soup or salad, an entrée with two sides, and a dessert. A bottle of Virginia wine can be added to complete your private dining experience.
